Expeditions

Traveling in an expedition can be an incredible experience. Expeditions are usually backpacking style trips that last over 2 weeks and can take you to remote places throughout the world. Most expeditions have numerous people within the core group of the expedition and have a support group and haulers that help with the expedition’s equipment and supplies. Because expeditions take place over a longer time period, the equipment involved to support each person is almost always too much for that one person to carry. Because of this, a base camp is typically set up once the expedition reaches its best launch point from which to conduct their studies, adventures, research, etc. . . Expeditions can vary wildly in their intention. Many can be for the purpose of archeological discovery, others for exploration of uncharted regions, and others can be simply sport, climbing Mt. Everest, etc. . . Whatever sort of expedition interests you, make sure to do your research and gain as much knowledge about your trip as possible. Expeditions can pose dangers that exceed that of a typical backpacking journey. Expeditions can be in very isolated locations and often in extreme environments. This can create a separation from general society and assistance in the case of an emergency. Because of this, before you head out on any expedition, make sure you have the proper communication equipment just in case. There are also other equipment concerns to be aware of before planning expeditions. Proper shelters, sleeping bags, clothing, lighting, communication equipment and cooking supplies are just a few of the supplies needed for successful expeditions. The investment involved in expeditions is usually quite sizeable and is not to be underestimated before any trip. If you are a more adventurous person and are able to stay away from everyday society for long periods of time, expeditions can be a great way to explore the world around you.
